EquiPETE Project

Advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in physical education and teacher education.

EquiPETE is a research project funded by the Research Council of Norway that explores how Physical Education Teacher Education can better prepare and support teachers to create more equitable, diverse and inclusive learning environments.

Building on the work of the PhysEd-Academy project, EquiPETE brings a focused commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion into teacher education, professional learning and school physical education.

The project brings together universities, schools and other stakeholders to examine current research and policy, co-develop pedagogical approaches, and explore how these can be enacted across teacher education and school contexts.

Our objectives

  • Examine how equity, diversity and inclusion are addressed in relevant research, policy and pedagogical practice.
  • Develop and refine signature pedagogies that support equity, diversity and inclusion in physical education teacher education.
  • Explore how these pedagogies are enacted in teacher education and school contexts, attending to the experiences of teacher educators, pre-service teachers and pupils.
  • Develop knowledge and resources to support professional learning and inform future practice and policy.

How the project works

EquiPETE follows an iterative process of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The project moves from co-design in teacher education to implementation in PETE and school settings, while continuously learning from the experiences of those involved.
