At the 2024 AIESEP International Conference “Past Meets the Future”, in Finland, the PhysEd Academy project presented the symposium: “Exploring Signature Pedagogies of Teacher Education in Physical Education.” This session spotlighted innovative approaches to preparing and supporting pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and teacher educators in physical education across international contexts.
Through collaborative research spanning seven European countries, the symposium examined three core ‘signature pedagogies’—(auto)biographical, experiential, and professional learning pedagogies. These methodologies offer a shared language and transformative potential for fostering authentic, equitable, and impactful teacher education practices.
The symposium featured data from 70 pre-service teachers, 22 in-service teachers, and 14 teacher educators, presenting their experiences through four studies. This collective effort promises to inspire new directions for teacher education, bridging research and practice worldwide.
